• CPSC Approves STR India as an Accredited Third Party Laboratory for Lead Testing
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that STR's
laboratory in India has been accredited by the CPSC for lead testing
under compliance with the US federal restrictions on lead. Along with
our other laboratories in US, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen, STR
India now offers lead testing as per US regulations.
• STR Mexico and STR Indonesia Awarded Provisional Approval for Starbucks C.A F. E. Practices Program
STR is pleased to announce that we are now provisionally approved for
work as a verification organization in Mexico and Indonesia for the
Starbucks Coffee and Farmer Equity (CAFE) Practices program. Read more.
• Sue DeRagon Named "Wonder Women of Toys" Finalist
Sue DeRagon, Associate Director of the Toy and Premium Division at STR,
has been named a finalist for the 2009 "Wonder Women of Toys" Awards. Read more.

• The CPSIA – As It Stands Today
Since the passage of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of
2008 on August 14, 2008, much effort has been dedicated to interpreting
and understanding the law's complex requirements. Toward that end, STR
has prepared a table which represents the current status of the CPSIA
and incorporates the key rulings and enforcement policy decisions which
have occurred since the law's passage. Read more.

• FDA Issues New Industry Guidance Documents
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the
availability of three new guidance documents designed to help ensure
the safety of FDA-regulated products. Read more.
• Peanut Butter Contamination Hastens Introduction of Food Safety Legislation
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that the
sources of the outbreak of illnesses caused by Salmonella Typhimurium
are peanut butter and peanut paste produced by the Peanut Corporation
of America (PCA) at its Blakely, Georgia processing plant. Read more.

The Oeko-Tex®Association has updated the requirements of the Oeko-Tex®Standard 100 for testing textiles for harmful substances. This routine update is effective January 1, 2009. Read more.

• Consultation on Replacing the Pedal Bicycles (Safety) Regulations
The UK Department for Transport has issued a consultation document on
the proposal for new Regulations to replace the Pedal Bicycles (Safety)
Regulations 2003. The consultation will run until March 30, 2009. Read more.
